This week we saw the whole herd of Elies at the dam in front of the lodge, almost every day and 2 really new born calves. On Saturday morning, we followed black rhino spoor to Thornleigh and eventually with alot of luck we found a Black Rhino bull in the middle of the herd. On our way there, we found a small breeding herd of Buffalo, but we didn't stick around that long. The following evening, we found 2 porcupine on the way home. What a beautiful animal! About 2km from the lodge, we had a really huge incounter with Hoepal, one of the big ele bulls. Really up close and too personal for my liking, but the guests loved every minute of it, but not me.
I took out the film crew, PlazaMedia. On the friday pm game drive we found the herd of elephants and veiwed them for a long time. Awesome sighting, young bulls pushing each other around. Some awesome footage, but not as awesome as what was to come... We set up for our sundowners, heard the elephants giving a comotion. Eventually we set out after it got dark to look for some nocturnal animals. As we came up from Secret river there it was, an AARDVARK! Got really close to it and was so chilled for at least 30min. As we drove about 500m up the road towards the lodge, there was another AARDVARK. That one never stuck around as the 1st one, but never have I ever had such an awesome sighting of an AARDVARK, but 2 in the space of 500m was the most awesome experience that I have ever had.
